How We Do It

In partnership with local school districts, we provide daily school-based interventions to students in grades K–12 and college to address academic failure, truancy, behavioral issues, social service needs and more.

The Communities In Schools (CIS) National Scaling Grant is part of the “Scaling for Success” initiative, which aims to expand CIS’s integrated student support model to more schools across the United States. This initiative is supported by significant investments, including a notable $165 million commitment from the Ballmer Group.

The grant helps CIS place trained site coordinators in schools to connect students with essential resources, addressing issues like chronic absenteeism and improving overall student outcomes. For the 2024-2025 school year, the initiative is expanding to 333 new schools, reaching nearly 200,000 additional K-12 students.
